Obsessed: Solange

I'm a cool, low Jane
With a skip on my feet
I play tough as nails
With my heart on my sleeve
I'm nothing but a sandcastle
Baby, don't blow me away

I love Solange and her daring style. She's one of my role models when it comes to pushing the boundaries and doing new things. Fashion is trial and error and all up to interpretation. While some may find her mix of prints gaudy or OTT, others (like myself) will see the actual work that goes into pairing stripes and leopard print with bold colours in a way that works.
I also admire how she uses her fashion as a way to be more than Beyonce Carter's younger sister. I always thought of it as the stepping stone out of the shadow of the one of the most iconic woman of our time and I think Miss Solange is doing it right.

She has a great flair for pairing colour, and orange is beautiful on her

I mean seriously, how cool is Solange? I especially love the middle look. It's so effortlessly stylish and cool. Gosh, I use that word a lot but I mean it sincerely with Solange.

Very pretty and mod looks

Bold trousers

Geographic prints

I think Solange would've been one of the Supremes (Diana Ross and the Supremes) in a past life. She's so elegant and her afro is beautiful and lush

[Outfit Post] You Spin My Head Right Round

Today I went down on to New Town to use the brilliant and beautiful graffiti under bridges there to do a photo shoot. It's a really wonderful place. The two streets that we worked on was an abondened town with old buildings of different colours and structures. Not to mention how it brought out our inner-city kids.
The photos will be up before the end of the week.

Obsessed: Amber Jones for Mr Price

Amber Jones was one of Elle magazine's rising stars in fashion design and now she's designing a line exclusively for Mr Price (secretly, my favourite store but if anyone asks it's Legit)). It's really inspired. It even brought me to Google her and I checked out her profile on Elle's online site.
She seems really cool and her collection is a beautiful combination of seventies retro meets preppy meets the-girl-too-school-for-school. She describes it as, "A rather-odd-in-a-good-way schoolgirl who often wears her dad's clothes from the seventies."

Here is her Mr Price line, entitled: The Best is Yet to Come
Mega girl crush developing here.

The jacket is now available online and in stores!
OK, how great is this skirt?

What pains me is how great this girl looks... I'd like to stab her with a fork.

Her own line is filled with plaids, earthy tones, navy and burnt oranges, chunky knits and denims. I'm totally in love with what she's about. I suspect that Funeka from The Quirky Stylista would be a great muse for her. For more on Amber Jones: click here.

[Outfit Post] Come and Rest Your Bones with Me

Round sunglasses [free] from the December issue of Elle, Mr Price gold chain, belted maxi dress from Cotton On, gold slippers from Mr Price
I'm really feeling curly hair right now. It's not something I've ever really tried before--the weight in this heat is horrific--but they are quite fun and ringlets are always real cute. I'm not the biggest dress person because they're rather one dimensional but a maxi dress is great for this heat. It makes getting dressed easier. I mean, I get all sweaty putting on jeans then a T-shirt and then shoes and who knows what else.

I don't really dark or heavy fabric maxi dress because that seems to be besides the point. Maxi dresses are summery and boho. And to me that means flowy, light materials, floral and bright spring colours like lime and pastel pink, something that will l go great with strappy sandals, beaded bangles, messy braids and over sized sunnies. But I do, however, really like this dress. And I've been dying for slipper cut loafers and these gold ones spoke to me in a dream.
OK, I just really like shiny things.

Happy February, everyone
